Version 2.7 »»»
The latest version of the FB! rulebook is now version 3.0.
The last version of the rules (2.7) can still be used without any major issue and is included in our latest game » 1809: Talavera. The rulebook references from that game’s battle booklet are pointing to the 2.7 version, so keeping one handy might be useful.
We kept the digital files here available for you to download 2.7 rules / 2.6 PAC
Our next game 1806: Auerstädt will include a version 3.0 “Perfect binding” 60 pages book and separate player aids including a unit & rules summary sheet.
The v3.0 digital version includes the 2-pages summary sheet at the end of the PDF file. The PAC still has to be downloaded separately.
Changes from version 2.7 to 3.0
The major change between the versions is the layout. Now, each point of rules is paragraphed and each paragraph starts with a few title words that allow you, at a glance, to find that small detail you were looking for much more rapidly than browsing through paragraphs of texts. The digital version even allows you to click and navigate between related rules or from the table of contents and glossary to the specific rule! Some phrasing was improved or made clearer, terminology was standardized, contradictions were eliminated, typos were hunted down and unnecessary rules were removed…
As for the actual game mechanics, here are the major changes:
» cavalry Charge markers now move all at once during an activation, not one by one. The Grand Charge still has its own resolution before regular markers.
» unlimbered artillery can now stack with infantry in column.
» “suppressed” artillery has been changed to simply “Disordered”, as there was no need for a separate term because the effects were identical.
» Reserve release through enemy action now happens at 2 hexes instead of 3 and ignores Disordered or small enemy units.
